Mitch Hedberg - 1968-2005

The passing of Mitch Hedberg will be taken hard by many in the comedy community.

Some of the struggles he faced in his personal life were known by many, and yet he will be remembered as a incredibly gifted performer.

We are sorry that so many will forever be deprived of seeing him perform live.

Our thoughts are with those who loved Mitch.

Monday Morning Quaterback....

James Gregory has come and gone, and we were slammed all weekend.

I hope that you had an enjoyable Easter Weekend. I am helped my children find just about that hidden eggs that I can manage. I do want to mention, and I certainly do not want to make it seem like I am braggin', but I did win my age group in the community egg hunt again this year.

Vinnie Cappolla was supporting James this weekend and it was nice to get to visit with him. He was suggesting that he was going to go to LA to see what happens at some point this year. If he does, we'll wish him the best of luck.

James Gregory has probably taught me more about merchandising than any other single comic.

March Madness...

I will confess that at this time of year I am a basketball junkie.

Whether you are doing well in your brackets or not, we have got some great comedy this weekend at the club.

I always enjoy getting to spend time with Henry Cho. Really a nice guy. Funny too.

Ron White Drops By....

Ron White dropped by to work on some new material tonight. I think we teased the possibility in an appropriate way. You never want to promise something that doesn't happen, but it is a great compliment to our customers that a performer of Ron's caliber would choose to workshop material with them.

Monday Morning Quarterback.....

It has been a long time since I made a regular posting.

Shoemaker has come and gone - and he did a really nice job. We'll see him again before the end of the year I'd imagine.

This week we had the Sierra Mist Late Nite Laff-Off and Stanhope.

More on that later.

It does present some challenges.

George Bush - Comedian?

Many politicians, any public speaker really, have a few stock pieces of material that they can use when making an appearance.

You may recall how much grief Senator John Kerry got from some on the right for his use of material tailored to he audience.

This piece looks at the comedic skills of our current Headliner-in-Chief. In part it reads, "Those that can't understand exactly why President George W. Bush is so popular with Independents and Republicans can just look at his self-deprecating humor displayed during his appearance at the Gridiron Club's 120th annual dinner. The president can definitely deliver one-liners, even when they are at his own expense."

Kathe, who is responsible for coordinating the bookings around here, has a number of 8x10 photos on the wall in her office. One of those photos is of Donald Rumsfeld.

I'd take it if she could book either one.

The Late Nite Laff-Off....

We are hosting additions for The Late Nite Laff-Off, which as presented, would get you eliminated from the Late Night Spelling Contest.

As a former three time participant in this contest, and as a three time prize pack winner I might add, if you are interested in getting your face on television and your material on the internet - check out WB36 or 99X for additional details.

I have crossed over and will participating as a judge this year.

All that time in law school and it turns out the only the time I get to be called "Judge" is as part of a comedy contest - go figure.

Joe Morrison at The Ugly Mug

Joe Morrison is at The Ugly Mug this weekend as part of The Punchline Neighborhood Comedy Series.

Consider checking the show out. It's a great way to see comedy when you aren't able to make it in to see us at the club.

How Quickly It Passes....

So this is what happens to a blog when you are out of contact with a computer for five days.

First your inbox exceeds capacity, then you spend so much time catching up that you don't really have time to post.

Irrera was the best as usual.

We sold the place out for the Kids Komedy show.

There really isn't much left for the Shoemaker shows this weekend.

Stewart Huff is closing for us tonight and if you aren't becoming a fan of his, really consider catching him tonight.

One thing that you always enjoy as a comedian is when a person from the audience let's you know after the show that "you were the best one tonight." Stewart gets that alot.
