I don't know for sure what brought you to this entry in the blog, but suffice it to say, you've made a good choice.
There is a lot to be said for being a comedian, and a great deal more for giving it a try and just becoming a person who is more comfortable being funny while communicating.
We believe that there is no one right way to go about it. For some, a class is the first thing, and even that introduces the notion of who you teach funny. In Atlanta, one name has consistently been associated with The Punchline and with comedy classes, and that is Jeff Justice. He has taught thousands of Atlantans how to get up on stage and tell jokes. His website is
here.
Other believe the best way to go about it is to just get up and do it, and there is merit to that approach as well.
Quite frankly, all that is required is you spend some time thinking what you want to get out of it and let that answer be your guide.
Finally, one word of caution. There are a number of people in Atlanta who claim to be teachers of comedy and run comedy classes. In our view they are not. You know the old saying those who can, do. Well, the person teaching you how to be a comedian needs to have done. A little bit of stage time and willingness to take your money isn't it in our view. If you are going to pay someone to help you become funny, please make sure that person knows what they are doing. There are some who'll take your money and you'll not be any funnier - though at least that first joke will be on you.
